Water System Evaluation

Provided a water system evaluation and feasibility study to address current water needs and provide recommendations to the District for improvements to the system and better service to the schools’ population. SSM’s engineers evaluated the existing wells, the water supply system, and the storage and distribution system for the East High School and Holicong Middle School.

Potable Water Tank Replacement and Maintenance Building Addition

SSM engineers provided structural, electrical, and mechanical engineering and design services for the removal and replacement of an existing 5,000 gallon potable water storage tank with two new 7,500 gallon storage tanks to be supported on new foundations, and a maintenance equipment room addition for storage of equipment.

Electrical Analysis

•SSM electrical engineers performed a detailed site survey and analysis of the overall campus electrical distribution system and analyzed the current uses.

SSM electrical engineers performed a detailed site survey and analysis of the overall campus electrical distribution system and analyzed the current uses.
Developed a prioritized list of buildings and uses of power for allocation of emergency backup power. Compared survey data to existing drawings and updated drawings. Prepared a report summarizing the collected data and presented a Master Plan to re-feed and back-up with the newly acquired emergency generator.

Civil and Site Engineering

SSM provided all of the civil/site engineering and permitting for the Millmont Elementary School and 6th Grade Magnet School.

The Reading School District

SSM provided all of the civil/site engineering and permitting for the Millmont Elementary School and 6th Grade Magnet School. This 135,000 square foot facility is being built by the Reading School District and includes a $2.2 million site work package.

As part of the design team, SSM provided the civil engineering design that included the site surveys, parking, circulation, grading, landscaping, street upgrades, green roof and other BMP's, stormwater management, erosion control permitting, and all land development plans and approvals. The design was completed on schedule. The awarded construction bid was less than the estimated construction cost.

Comprehensive Envrionmental Audit

SSM performed a comprehensive environmental audit of the St. Joseph Medical Center complex, Citadel Campus, which consisted of five buildings ranging in size from two to six stories.

Reading School District & St. Joseph Medical Center

SSM performed a comprehensive environmental audit of the St. Joseph Medical Center complex, Citadel Campus, which consisted of five buildings ranging in size from two to six stories. This audit was conducted while the facility was in operation and included Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments, an asbestos survey, a lead survey, a mold survey, and a hazardous materials inventory. This work was completed as part of a pending property transaction and site reuse.

Four underground storage tanks were removed as part of the project; two of which required active soil remediation. The site has been remediated to residential standards and attainment of these standards has been demonstrated. This will result in the relief of environmental liability for St. Joseph Medical Center, Reading School District, and all future owners of the property.

In addition, SSM industrial hygienists also conducted a PCB investigation, mercury investigation, ozone depleting chemical investigation, and a search for radioactive materials that might have remained in the hospital.

Asbestos Management

Performed all asbestos-related engineering services related to the Old Senior Hall renovation project.

SSM performed all asbestos-related engineering services related to the Old Senior Hall renovation project, including a comprehensive asbestos inspection of the facility, asbestos abatement design, bidding services, air monitoring and contractor oversight during the abatement, and project management services to support the ongoing renovation project.

Multi-Discipline Engineering

Architectural engineering for the Elementary Center and a new natatorium.

Wyomissing Area School District

Wyomissing, Pennsylvania

Facility Engineering - HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and electrical systems design for an Elementary Center project involving the addition of 12 new classrooms, a new gymnasium, a new administration wing, and renovations to the existing school.

Construction Phase Services - Services included review of applications for payment, review of shop drawings, site observation, and resolution of construction issues related to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work.

Indoor Air Quality - Construction phase activities related to protecting indoor air quality in an occupied school building during construction activities.

Facility Engineering - HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and electrical systems design for a new natatorium.

Site Engineering - Services including administration of Borough review process on behalf of the District, grading plan, stormwater management plan, and landscaping design for a new field house.
