SURVEY + INFRASTRUCTURE + BUILDINGS + ENVIRONMENT
HIGHER EDUCATION
Engineering campus growth.
Investigating mold and indoor air quality issues. Engineering new building systems. Renovating old structures for new life. SSM answers the multi-faceted needs of college and university campuses with a single source for engineering and consulting services. We collaborate with the school's facility team to balance the needs of the administrators, faculty, and students, and guide the team toward the project goals with responsible fiscal and environmental stewardship. The specifics vary, but one course is always part of the program: ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students and staff to learn, live, and work.
HIGHLIGHT PROJECTS
Members of our Energy and Sustainability Services department performed a ‘building tune-up’ at the Juvenile Justice Center to identify opportunities for conserving energy and water usage. This evaluation was conducted as a pilot for the City of Philadelphia, for the development of Building Energy Performance Policy Ordinance and program guidelines. (BEPP)
SSM performed a detailed field survey of each building. The existing fan coil units were located in extremely tight spaces above the ceiling. Converting the system from a two-pipe system to a four-pipe system required detailed coordination with existing architecture and other utilities.
SSM utilized high definition laser scanning equipment and software to quickly and accurately capture the existing structure and landscape conditions.
Provided structural engineering for an approximately 15,000 square foot addition to the Student Union and Services Building at Lincoln University.
SSM mechanical engineers completed a ventilation study to provide options to ventilate the “attic” spaceof Weightman Hall.
SSM electrical engineers performed the design review for the 2.8 kW ground mounted solar array connecting the system into the campus distribution system and design review for the electrical car charging station as in-kind gifts to the University.
Performed electrical design including new lighting design and parking improvements for the Reichhold Center for the Arts renovation.
Performed an evaluation of the existing HVAC and lighting systems to document existing system conditions, identify needed system improvements, and identify potential energy savings associated recommended improvements.
