Implementing source water protection activities with a Watershed Coordinator

TALKING ABOUT WATERSHEDS | GET OUTDOORS DAY

Western Berks Water Authority

Berks County, Pennsylvania

Western Berks Water Authority (WBWA), a water supplier that serves over 25,000 people in Berks County, draws from a surface intake in a local creek. Their Source Water Protection Plan covers a large subwatershed to the Schuylkill River in southeastern Pennsylvania.

SSM provides Watershed Coordinator  assistance to WBWA to implement  the strategies discussed at the annual steering committee meetings, including support of the agricultural community, development of partnerships with federal and state agencies, and updating their Potential Sources of Contamination inventory.  SSM also provides staff assistance in community events like Get Outdoors Day, and as a proxy attendee for the Local Emergency Planning Committee.
