Healthy Communities | Is your Emergency Kit ready?

What do you do when you have a planning emergency? Sometimes you might have to step outside of your norma planning process to address an issue which demands immediate attention; apply a bandage, compress, or similar treatment.

What do you carry in your first aid kit?
The SSM phone number is a start. The issue might be to prepare a needed amendment to your zoning ordinance to correct a deficiency; address a use which could be a potential threat to the character of your community; facilitate a desirable potential project; or address new technology.

The planners at SSM are available to consult with you regarding the appropriate emergency treatment, and in the midst of addressing the issue at hand, check the vital signs of your community. We make house calls.

Most communities at some time are faced with a planning situation which demands immediate attention. Perhaps your zoning ordinance allows for a use which has a likelihood of being proposed in your community, but your ordinance does not establish sufficient standards or design guidelines for that use. If constructed, the use could adversely affect the character of your community. Or, there may be an opportunity for a desirable use to locate in your community, but you have not adequately provided for it in your ordinance. Zoning amendments are in order. Your zoning ordinance may not include uses required to be provided for by the Municipalities Planning Code nor protect special resources such as the Appalachian Trail. Do you need a curative amendment to be drafted to correct a crucial deficiency in your ordinance? Have you addressed current topics which affect your residents, such as wind and solar energy?
