How Healthy is Your Community?
Your community is a lot like a body. It is made up of many different parts and systems that all work together to provide a coordinated function. If one part is unhealthy the whole body suffers for it. Like a body, it is much better to keep a community healthy on an ongoing basis than to spend energy trying to nurse a sick part back to health. The key to avoiding illness is frequently checking up on your health and taking the appropriate steps to prevent sickness. Right now is a great time to do just that with your community.

How Healthy is Your Community? Now may be the best time for your municipality to have a Community Wellness Checkup. How healthy are your community's vital organs? The current slowdown in development pressure provides a great opportunity to evaluate the health of your planning organs – your comprehensive Plan, Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance, Stormwater Management Ordinance, and Greenway, Open Space and Recreation Plan. Now is the best time to get these organs healthy, before economic recovery begins to stress them more acutely. We can help with the diagnosis and the cure. Let SSM provide you with a prescription for a proactive approach to a healthy community.
The Healthy Community Series will provides health tips for your community, highlighting a different part of your community, relating it to a particular body part or system. We'll discuss its importance, identify the planning tools that relate to it, talk about how to keep it healthy, and provide a case study to illustrate how others have been successful.
