SSM Announces Partnership with EPA's ENERGY STAR Program
Strengthens commitment to energy efficiency, formalizes an Energy and Environmental team.
Spotts, Stevens and McCoy, Inc. strengthened its commitment to protect the environment by becoming an ENERGY STAR partner. SSM, through its voluntary partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR Program, will work to improve energy efficiency and fight global warming.
SSM believes businesses benefit financially by continually improving their management of energy resources. The firm has been committed to providing energy and environmental solutions since its founding in 1932; it is a firm belief that environmental stewardship is everyone's responsibility, by making smart energy choices, SSM is helping improve our nation's energy and environmental outlook. Patrick M. McCoy, PE, Vice President commented, “We are proud to offer our services to those business that have committed to the goals of ENERGY STAR. This is not a new idea for us; every day, and with every project, we strive to enhance the quality of life. The ENERGY STAR partnership is a continuation of our way of thinking.”
In partnership with ENERGY STAR, SSM will help spread the word about the importance of energy efficiency to the community; support the ENERGY STAR Challenge, a national call-to-action to help improve the energy efficiency of America's commercial and industrial buildings by 10% or more; develop and implement a plan consistent with the ENERGY STAR Energy Management Guidelines to achieve energy savings; and measure and track the energy performance of the organization's facilities where possible by using tools offered through ENERGY STAR.
ENERGY STAR is best known as a label for products, such as appliances, that meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). But the ENERGY STAR also identifies superior energy performance for America's commercial and industrial buildings. Whether a school, hospital, small business, or large corporation, ENERGY STAR guidelines can help reduce energy use, save money, and help protect the environment. ENERGY STAR Service and Product Providers (like SSM) have the experience and tools to implement energy-efficient strategies.
ENERGY STAR was introduced by EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. Today, the ENERGY STAR label can be found on more than 50 different kinds of products, new homes and commercial and industrial buildings. Products and buildings that have earned the ENERGY STAR designation prevent greenhouse gas emissions by meeting strict energy-efficiency specifications set by the government. In 2007, Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved about $16 billion on their energy bills while reducing the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of 27 million vehicles.
