Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools Initiative
Indoor air quality (IAQ) is a critically important aspect of creating and maintaining school facilities. The IAQ Tools for Schools Initiative provides both detailed guidance and links to other information resources to help design new schools or repair, renovate and maintain existing facilities.

The American Lung Association of the Mid-Atlantic (ALA M-A) administers the Tools for Schools grant for the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 3 office. The grant program is available to public and private schools and school districts serving elementary and/or secondary students. Under the grant, such institutions would be eligible to receive, at no charge, services such as: walkthroughs and visual assessments of school buildings; training of school or school district staff in performing such walkthroughs or assessments; summaries and reports of findings from such walkthroughs or assessments; initial and refresher IAQ/Tools for Schools trainings to selected school IAQ coordinators, principals, teachers, custodial and maintenance staff, and PTA members; and presentations to school district staff and officials of assessment findings and IAQ outreach information.

SSM has been contracted by the American Lung Association to provide Tools for Schools program and subsequently assist school districts to address their IAQ concerns.
