Stormwater Management Returning runoff. Stormwater is more than just a force of nature that needs to be managed. Working with municipalities, regulators, developers, and environmental protection advocates, we've developed innovative approaches to infiltrating stormwater to the local water table, and improving the quality before it flows to local streams and rivers. Sure, we still keep properties and communities safe from the storm. But we also know how to turn that power into a resource.
Maintaining Existing Stormwater Structure | We develop maintenance plans (often using GIS) and capital improvement plans to assure that communities' stormwater collection systems operate at maximum efficiency.
Best Management Practices | Trained in the DEP Stormwater BMP Manual, SSM engineers and landscape architects integrate Best Management Practices into porous pavement, infiltration swales, rain gardens, green roofs, constructed wetlands and numerous other projects. They're also familiar with non-structural BMPs such as smart road salting, municipal good housekeeping, public education, and storm drain stenciling.
Ordinance Review | SSM planners and engineers prepare and/or review comprehensive ordinances to help municipalities guide stormwater management in their communities.
Erosion and Sediment Control Plans | Designed to protect stormwater from sediment and other runoff contaminants, our erosion and sediment (E&S) control plans help protect downstream waters from the impacts of construction and disturbed land.
Flood Management | It's imperative to protect communities from overwhelming floodwaters, but we also have the technology to actually draw environmental benefits from the waters. For example, we can maintain water quality and infiltrate or reuse water generated by small storms while still routing heavy downpours into stormwater management systems, including various retention methods.
Stormwater Planning | SSM's comprehensive experience includes analysis of localized flooding problems, regional planning, and flood routing studies. Tools and approaches might include hydrologic models such as HEC-RAS and SWMM, economic analysis or prioritization of projects for future implementation.
